To begin with, my apologies to the people of Ireland: I confess that I really didn’t realize that The Banshees of Inisherin was a historical drama until I was sitting in the cinema, popcorn in hand and witnessed Colin Farrell riding in a cart. I thought to myself that this might have been a deliberate choice by director Martin McDonagh: The film’s folklore, fanciful-realistic tone lends the film an air that exists outside of time and place. point, while Inishmore’s filming location continued. The Aran Islands have a sort of unchanging landscape, the ends of the earth barely changing in the roughly a century since the movie’s setting. (Or maybe I’m an idiot. In fact, almost certainly am.)
Oddly enough, André and Ratajkowski were spotted snooping on vacation in Grand Cayman last week by Page Six, which wrote in inimitable style: “Our pictures show them. spend more time admiring each other than gazing at the clear water.” As they should! Indeed, however, dating a comedian is a routine ritual, one that Ratajkowski overlooked in her Pete Davidson era, but dating a comedian who is really funny is one. Achievements deserved to be celebrated with a sun-drenched holiday. (Come to me, Pete stans! I’ll say it! I like Pete, but he’s hotter than he’s funny!) This could be a social attitude towards me (okay, it sure is!) like that), but I was trying to send André “DO NOT PLAY AGAIN WITH THIS WOMEN” messages with my mind. EmRata is, after all, a relatively recently divorced single mother, and although I trust André more than many other comedians his age, in the end I just want Emily to be happy, to be okay. huh? Then again, André is the living embodiment of the “she let me hit because I’m stupid” meme, so maybe I need to learn to trust famous men (ugh); doesn’t he seem like a great boyfriend to Ratajkowski? One will mock the fashion world in a fun way without undermining her, and the one who will excel in the pivotal role is the celebrity-BF holding her purse as she walks down the many red carpets different? Perhaps this relationship (situation?) will go up in smoke as quickly as the EmRata/Pete Davidson boom did. But if it is, I’ll still be grateful that I got to see André as the romantic male lead he so deserves. Enjoy your cocktail on the beach, kids; Real life can wait until you’re back in New York, trying to figure out whether to hang out with Emily’s model friends or Eric’s comedy co-stars any Saturday night. (If I could give you an idea: Combine groups! We need more model/comedian couples in this cold, ruthless world!)
But there’s another reason I might not have noticed at first that Banshees is set in the 1920s: those damn sweaters. I may not be the first to observe the timeless allure of the ravishing sweaters worn throughout the film, whether Brendan Gleeson as the cranky folk musician Colm, or Colin Farrell as the hero Hibernian Pádraic, or Barry Keoghan as the misunderstood rogue Dominic. ; A quick Google search revealed that numerous menswear magazines, from GQ to Esquire, beat me at it. But I found myself especially annoyed when the Oscar nominations dropped last week and in the best costume design category, Banshees was nowhere to be seen.
